Life flashing before my eyes

Reflecting on the events of the past year is quite popular in late December. It’s an indicator of where we’ve been and where we are going. It has been just over two years since I arrived back in Detroit and I think I’m doing all right.

On Christmas day I finally had time to relax and trowel through the Internet, falling through rabbit holes and getting lost in my travels. It’s been forever since I had the time to do that! I happened upon Pummelvision through one of my favorite photography sites, Photojojo.

I allowed Pummelvision to access to my Flickr & YouTube accounts and let them do their magic. What I received was a pretty slick video that shows a glimpse of the last 7-ish years of my life.

From my first trip to the UK as a tourist to my honeymoon, renovating the house, The Boat Race in London, my moms visit, watching Frankie the Cat grow up all over again, the eventual move back to Detroit, working with Blight Busters, and Photowalks Detroit; it’s the story of my life shown through the pictures that I’ve taken.

Just a warning, Frankie the Cat is the star of the video. I’m pretty happy my beloved Ice Tree made the cut, though.

Take a peek at the last 7 years of my life.

I’m sure that my video is much more interesting to me than it is to you; it reminded me of things I had forgotten and made me all warm and fuzzy inside. But the real point of Pummelvision and its value is that it is YOUR story.

So, take it for a spin and see the story of your life. It works with photos from Flickr, Facebook, and Tumblr and with video from YouTube or Vimeo.

I kind of wish I would have just used my Detroit photos (you have options with Flickr accounts) but was delightfully surprised to see the story evolve from just a few days before I met my husband. And every time I watch the video it seems different, like different photos are highlighted.

Sometimes, the last picture in England is of a black cab outside our house and then we move to Detroit. Pretty cool!

I allowed access to my last 2500 photos and it did everything else, I had no hand in what was included or excluded. I’ll make another video once I upload more of my Detroit photos to Flickr; I’m way behind. Here is more information on Pummelvision from Tech Crunch. Oh, make sure you rotate your photos; my sideways photos bug me.

So, do you reflect on the last year before starting anew? How?

I'm not a big on New Year's resolutions or looking back just because it's the end of the year. I tend to reflect on the past, both distant and recent, much more often.

Thanks for exploring Detroit. I hope the City treats you well.

PJ,
Thanks for stopping by! I hear you on New Year's resolutions, I don't do them either. And I think reflecting throughout the year is a great idea. Detroit is treating me very well.
